The family of a 'hero' dad who died trying to save a group of children from a riptide have paid a loving tribute to him. Hywel Morgan died in a tragic accident at a Ceredigion beach on June 10, police said.
An air ambulance was called to Poppit Sands in St Dogmaels, Wales, at around 8.40pm following reports that a number of people had been caught in a riptide at the beach. It is understood Hywel, who was known affectionately as Hyw by family and friends, had tried to rescue a group of children who had got into difficulty in the water.
The 47-year-old died after being recovered from the sea. Despite their best efforts, paramedics were unable to save him.

Hyw's loved ones have now issued a short tribute to the “devoted and loving father”, who they described as a "hero".
“Despite our pain and grief, it gives us comfort that he selflessly tried to prevent others from losing their lives," the family said. “Hyw was a selfless individual who always gave up his time for others. He was a devoted and loving father and was loved and respected by all who knew him.
“As a family, we would now like time to grieve and would ask for privacy in which to do so.”
