Tributes to farm worker killed in industrial accident on Roxburghsire farm

A farm worker died after an accident involving machinery at his workplace.

Bryan Thomson, 25, was seriously injured in the accident at Northhouse Farm near Hawick, Roxburghshire, on Friday morning.

Paramedics raced to the scene but were unable to save him and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police Scotland said there were no suspicious circumstances and a report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal in due course.

But as the incident happened at a place of work, a fatal accident inquiry will be held into the death.

Inquiries are ongoing and the Health and Safety Executive have been informed.

His employer J. Hepburn and Co. have released a statement paying tribute to Mr Thomson.

“It was a massive shock but praise must be given to everyone, including the emergency services, who dealt with a very difficult situation.

“Bryan had worked with us full time for about five years and self-employed for a few years before that. He was an incredibly hard worker often keen to go and start a job as most were finishing.

“To many, Bryan was the face of the contracting side of the business and he was very highly thought of as a skilled operator, carrying out his work to a very high standard, with plenty of banter along the way.

“He was very well liked and a huge asset to the business.

“Bryan was not just an employee but, really, an integral part of a family business and was taking more responsibility for day-to-day operations.

"He will be greatly missed as a workmate and a friend for his funny banter and witty, cheeky remarks.

“His untimely passing will leave a very large void at Northhouse and beyond.

“We, of course, pass on our condolences to his family and they must be very proud of the exceptional young man Bryan was regarded as.

“He will be a great miss to many far and wide whether it be through his work, his music or just a chance meeting."
