Tributes to Dumfries and Galloway woman who lost her life in quad bike accident

Tributes have been paid to a 21-year-old woman who lost her life in a quad bike accident.

Sam Bunting died after falling off the vehicle at Gerranton Farm near Castle Douglas on Wednesday morning.

Sam, from Kirkbean, had worked at the JR Heuchan and Sons-run farm for a number of years. Jack Heuchan said: “She was a lovely person and had an ability working with livestock beyond her years.”

Tributes were also paid to Sam on social media.

One person said: “So, so sad taken too soon. Thoughts go out to your fellow workers especially the young lady who found you, your family and friends and also to all the emergency services who attended the scene.”

Another added: “Knew this young lady through work.

“She was a hard working, well spoken, beautiful woman. Devastated at this tragic event. RIP Sam.”

And a third said: “Sam, you were always a joy to teach. A gentle and lovely person. So sad to hear this news. Rest in peace.”

A Police Scotland spokesman said: “We were made aware of a 21-year-old injured after coming off a quad bike on a farm near Castle Douglas shortly after 11.15am on Wednesday, 22 September.

“Emergency services attended but the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

“The Health and Safety Executive has been informed and a report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal in due course.”

A spokesman for HSE said enquiries are at an early stage and are ongoing.
