Tributes to Cramlington motorcyclist James Ferguson killed in Easter Monday crash

The heartbroken mum of tragic motorcylist James Ferguson has today urged other young bikers to learn from his death

The 23-year-old from, Cramlington, died after crashing his off-road bike on Easter Monday.

James's loved ones say he was bike mad and a skilled rider.

And today his mum Marilyn Iley has told of her heartache as she begs other motorcyclists to stay safe.

Marilyn Iley (Newcastle Chronicle)

She said: "“He lived for what he called the 'buzz' of the bike, the feel of the power behind him.

"He was an amazing rider but his passion ended his life.

“Myself and my family are devastated. I have no words to the pain we are feeling, waking up each day now not seeing him covered in oil and being off out on the bikes.

“Jimmy would never have wanted me to issue a message to people to try to stop them enjoying their bikes - but I know he would now want me to say please stay safe.

“Always wear a helmet – like he always did, keep control of your bike and don’t think you can do things on these powerful machines that shouldn’t be done. Anyone can lose control at any time and could end up like he has."

James, whose son Jimmy turns two today, crashed in the Bomarsund area of Northumberland, on Monday afternoon.

Nothing could be done to save his life.

The scene of the crash is now covered with flowers and messages from his many friends.

James also leaves behind dad William Ferguson, brothers Grant, Lee, Jack, Harry and Bailey and recent girlfriend Sinead Bell.

Marilyn added: “He will be missed by everyone who knew him. All his friends - Lewis Allen, Matty Dobison, Karl Weatherstone, Ed Coulson, John Dunwoody and Manny Burgo - said when he entered a room his smile lit up the whole place and they will never see that again.

“I hope his death will send a strong message to young riders to please stay safe.”
