Tributes to Bristol rescue worker who died suddenly aged 54

Tributes have been paid to a Bristol man who devoted his life to saving other people after he died suddenly at the age of 54.

A friends and colleague of Pete Baker said he will be remembered for his 'big grin, sense of humour and willingness to get involved'.

Mr Baker worked for Avon & Somerset Search and Rescue (ASSAR) for 11 years where he regularly helped people stranded in the area.

According to our sister paper Somerset Live, he died suddenly at home of natural causes.

Ron Thomas, chairman of ASSAR said: "Pete’s sudden death has come as a real shock to us all.

"He was very fit and technically skilled, enjoying mountain biking, mountaineering and kayaking outside of the team.

"I know fellow members will remember him for his big grin, his sense of humour and willingness to get involved. He’ll be sadly missed."

A spokesman for ASSAR added: "Pete will be missed immensely by all the team members.

"Our thoughts and condolences are with his family who we will support through this difficult time and honour Pete in the best way we can."

Mr Baker will be cremated at a private family service.

A celebration of his life will be held later in September.
