Tributes to 'big-hearted and hard working' Stirling SNP councillor after sudden death

Tributes have been paid to Stirling councillor Graham Lambie who has died suddenly at the age of 62.

Councillor Lambie had served the Forth and Endrick ward since 2007, the year he was first elected, and re-elected in 2012, and 2017.

A member of the Tartan Army, one of his passions was following the Scotland football team as well as the Scotland rugby team.

Former Stirling MP Steven Paterson, who was also elected to Stirling Council in 2007, spoke of his sadness at his friend's passing.

He said: "Graham was a much-loved character with a big heart who will be sorely missed by all his many friends and all those whose lives he touched.

“I was privileged to count Graham as a good pal for over 25 years, as well as a steadfast colleague in the world of politics, with both of us being elected to Stirling Council on the same day in May 2007.

"He was dedicated to serving his constituents, and was a tireless champion for the Forth and Endrick ward.

“Graham loved Scotland and its people, and was never happier than cheering on a national sporting victory - I last heard from him on Saturday as he savoured that tremendous rugby win with trademark exuberance.

“My thoughts are with his family at this incredibly difficult time.”

Stirling MSP Bruce Crawford, who had known councillor Lambie for more than 20 years, said: "This is a tragic loss on a community level as well as for family and friends.

"I’ve known Graham since 1999, he was a close friend and colleague. I will miss him greatly, and I am thinking about his family who have lost someone very special.

“Over the years, I went to a number of Scotland football matches with Graham. Like me, he was an avid member of the Tartan Army.

"He was an incredibly diligent and hardworking councillor. I could not count the number of hours spent and miles walked on the campaign trail with him.

"Graham was a deep and passionate believer in independence, and it’s up to the rest of us to carry that forward with his memory in our thoughts.”

Balfron Community Council also paid tribute to councillor Lambie on their Facebook page: "We are deeply saddened to learn of the death this week of councillor Graham Lambie.

"Graham has been a dedicated and assiduous councillor for the Strathendrick ward for many years, and was a great friend to Balfron.

"His energy and commitment to the wellbeing of the area will be sorely missed by us and many others.

"He attended our council meeting last Thursday with his characteristic involvement in our issues.

"Our thoughts are with his family, friends and colleagues at this hard time."
