Tributes to 'beautiful' woman, 22, who died after being hit by a police car

Tributes have been paid to a 22-year-old woman who died after being hit by a police car while on a night out with friends.

Jade Mutua, from West Hampstead, London, was fatally struck by a marked police vehicle in Kensington High Street at around 9.55pm on Tuesday.

The student was rushed to hospital by paramedics but passed away on Thursday after her life-support machine was switched off.

Jade's step-mum Mina Agyepong told The Sun : "She was a beautiful, fun loving 22-year-old who had her whole life ahead of her. All her family are devastated.

"She was visiting friends in the area that night but we are still trying to piece together her movements, where she had been and where she was going when she was hit.

"We don’t even know if the police car was on a 999 call. We’re absolutely heartbroken Jade has gone.”

Ms Agyepong added that Jade, who was studying social work at college, died at the scene of the crash but was resuscitated by paramedics.

The youngster suffered a traumatic brain injury, along with a broken back, leg, neck and ruptured pelvis.

She was kept alive on life-support in London's St Mary's Hospital, however her family switched it off on Thursday on the advice of doctors.

Mina said her step-daughter was 'essentially brain dead' after the crash and her relatives were by her side when they turned the machine off.

She described the moment of Jade's death as 'so traumatic' and said the family is still 'in pieces'.

A Met Police spokesman told The Sun: “A mandatory referral has been made to the Independent Office for Police Conduct who have launched an independent investigation.”
