Tributes to 'absolute gentleman' Longford man who died in hospital following incident on farm

Tributes are being paid to a Longford man who passed away after sustaining serious injuries following an incident on his farm in March.

Kevin Skelly of Carrickboy was discovered by a relative at around 7 pm on March 28 and is believed to have fallen from bales in his farmyard.

He was airlifted to hospital and remained there for the last six weeks receiving treatment for significant head injuries.

The married father-of-four passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Tuesday night in Beaumont Hospital.

Kevin is survived by his wife Catherine, and his four children Joseph, Sarah, John and Ruth.

Funeral arrangements will be confirmed in due course.

Tributes posted online have described him as an active member of the community, with a local drama group among those offering their sympathy.

The Bea Masterson Legan Drama group offered their condolences writing on Facebook that they “wish to extend our heartfelt sympathy to Catherine, Kevin's children and all Skelly family and friends on the sad passing of Kevin. Kevin was a gentleman and great supporter of Legan and Ballycloughan community events. Ar dheis De go raibh anam.”

Many people offered their condolences on RIP.ie.

One mourner wrote: "Deepest sympathy to you on the sad loss of Kevin. You are in mu thoughts and prayers at this very difficult time. He is a huge loss to you and the wider community."

Another said: "Sincere sympathy. There are no words. May Kevin's gentle soul rest in peace."

Other described him as “a great neighbour and an absolute gentleman”.

The Health and Safety Authority has confirmed that an investigation into the incident is ongoing.
