Tributes roll in as young Cork man with 'heart of gold' passes away suddenly

Tributes have been pouring in after a young man from Cork city passed away suddenly over the weekend.

William Harrington was described by those who know him as "too much of a legend to ever be forgotten" as shocked friends and family sent messages of respect to him and his family.

The Knocknaheeny native had been living near the Lough but passed away on Sunday with his parents and two sisters left devastated.

The former boxing champion was said to have had "a heart of gold and was full of laughter"

One friend wrote: "R.I.P buddy you're gonna be missed by everyone. You were a gas man and always a laugh and joke."

While the We Are Cork Facebook page said:

"William, a great Cork boxer a real Cork Champion and overall a lovely young man - condolences to his family at this tragic time, may William rest in peace."

While another friend said: "Absolutely gutted"

Due to the ongoing restrictions relating to Covid-19, William's funeral will be taking place privately.

A post on RIP.ie said: "Harrington (Cork) on April 4th 2021 unexpectedly; William (Croghtamore Gardens & late of Killala Gardens, Knocknaheeny).

"Beloved son of William and Fiona (nee Crowley), loving brother of Rebekah and Kate, cherished grandson of Carmel Crowley and the late Liam Crowley, Tony Harrington and Kitty (Rice).

"Sadly missed by his heartbroken parents, sisters, cousins Lorna, Kathlyn and Celina, uncles, aunts, relatives and a large circle of friends.

"To follow best practices and guidelines and with the support of William's family, the Funeral will take place privately.

"Condolences may be added below or at www.oconnorfuneralcork.ie

"Thank you for your understanding and co-operation."
