Tributes pour in for young man killed in Longford road crash as he's named locally

Tributes are being paid to a young man who was killed in a single-vehicle crash in Longford over the weekend.

Brian McGinnity, of Cartron Big, was named locally as the victim of the fatal collision that happened on the Cullyfad Road at Coolnahinch at around 12.30am on Friday.

McGinnity, who is aged in his 20s, was a passenger in the vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene.

His body was removed to a mortuary, where a post-mortem was conducted.

Brian’s death notice was published on Sunday and read: “Brian, following an accident.

“Predeceased by his beloved mother Kathryn and by his grandparents Sean and Eileen Gallagher.

“Brian will be sadly missed and remembered with love by his family, father Eoin, sisters Aileen, Katie and Jane, grandfather Eugene, grandmother Finola, aunt Lisa, uncles Colin and Stephen, relatives and many friends.

“May he rest in peace.”

Due to current funeral Covid restrictions, many have been posting their condolences online, and according to the message on RIP.ie, “The family very much appreciates your support and consideration at this time.”

One tribute read: “Our deepest condolences on the sudden and tragic loss of your lovely son Brian. Our thoughts and prayers are with Eoin, Brian’s Sisters, family & friends. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.”

Another mourner wrote: “So deeply saddened to hear of the death of Brian. No words can express our feelings. A life taken too young with so much to give.

‘Thinking of you Eoin, Aileen, Katie, Jane, grandparents Finola & Eugene, Lisa and the extended Gallagher and McGinnity families. Rest in peace Brian.”

A third wrote: “Eoin, Aileen, Katie and Jane, our heartfelt sympathies to you all on the untimely passing of Brian, in his young life to his eternal reward.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with you all, especially during these numbed days. May he rest in peace.”

A fourth added: “I'll always remember the trips in the 210 and memorable days in Abbeyshrule.

“Rest in peace Brian..you were top class and will be sorely missed but never forgotten.”

Funeral arrangements will be published later today.
