Tributes pour in for woman killed after being hit by lorry

The death of a pensioner killed by a lorry as she crossed the road in Ormskirk has prompted a flood of tributes.

People took to social media to pay their respects to the 73-year-old woman , who was hit at around 12.30pm yesterday.

Police confirmed the woman was struck by a DAF Lorry as she crossed Park Road and despite the best efforts of paramedics, the pensioner, who has yet to be formally named, died at the scene.

Her death prompted people take to Facebook to express their grief at the incident.

The tributes come as police today issued an update on their investigation and confirmed they are exploring the possibility the tragedy could have been caught on dashcam footage.

Sgt Michael Higginson, of Lancashire Constabulary ’s Tac Ops, said: “This collision has sadly resulted in a woman losing her life and my thoughts are with her family and friends at this time."

He added: "I would appeal to anyone who witnessed the collision, and who has not yet spoken to police, to come forward. I would also appeal to anyone who may have dash-cam footage which captured the incident to contact the police.”


Anyone with information should contact police on 101 quoting log 0551 of October 17.

Yesterday police closed Park Road for several hours and diverted traffic around Ormskirk town centre.

Motorists were asked to find alternate routes.
