Tributes pour in for popular Dublin firefighter Joe 'Tokyo' Brennan following sudden death

Tributes have been pouring in for a popular retired firefighter after he died suddenly passed away.

'Tokyo' Joe Brennan was a much loved Station Officer who earned his nickname because he represented Ireland in martial arts.

The Dublin Fire Brigade have said they were saddened to hear the news of "gentleman" Joe's death, revealing that the "popular" officer had started working with them in 1985.

Taking to Twitter, they said: "We are saddened to hear of the sudden passing of retired Station Officer "Tokyo" Joe Brennan.

"The popular officer began his service with in 1985. Described as a gentleman and an inspiration he will be missed throughout DFB. Our thoughts are with his family at this time. RIP Joe"

The Kilbarrack Unit said: "R.I.P “Tokyo” Joe Brennan. You fought the good fight. Sleep easy now, for we have the watch. Our sincere condolences to his family, friends and colleagues."

A former college Willie Bermingham said: "Gutted to hear of the death of retired Station Officer, “Tokyo” Joe Brennan.

"Tokyo was my S/O for a few years in Blanchardstown station and he was an officer I would go anywhere for. May he Rest In Peace. Ar dheis De go raibh ar a hanam dilis."

Another said: "Rest in Peace Tokyo Joe. A real gentleman. Shocked and saddened."
