Tributes pour in for 'polite' young man who died while swimming at UK beach

Tributes have been paid to a 'polite' young man who died after a day out at the beach with his friends.

Hamza Mansoor, 21, was tragically swept away while swimming in the sea at Crosby, Merseyside on July 20, 2021, reports the Liverpool Echo.

The Staffordshire University student, who was living in Stoke at the time, struggled to stay afloat as the tide rapidly turned and found himself unable to swim.

An inquest at Bootle Town Hall on Wednesday (September 28) determined he suffered a cardiac arrest.

His friend Usman Aslan - reported to be the only person on the day trip who could swim - made a brave attempt to save Hamza as several members of the group struggled against the current, but quickly became separated.

He then returned to shore to find help, where he located a nearby woman who pulled three of them onto her paddle board.

Other people on the beach also swam out to help Hamza, but were unable to save his life.

After being brought out of the sea, Hamza and his friend Toqeer Ashraf, who was in a critical condition, were rushed to Aintree Hospital.

Hamza was pronounced dead at 8.20pm.

Members of the local community have since rushed to offer their condolences to his family on social media, as one woman said: "Oh that is heart-breaking 21 years old, it's too tragic and upsetting. His poor family, especially his mum, must be devastated. Rest in peace young man."

Another said: "My sister had been talking to these lovely polite boys just as they set out for the beach. Heartbreaking".

One local resident meanwhile warned of the risks of swimming in the area, writing that there were "too many currents in the Mersey" where people didn't "realise the dangers."

They added: "So sad another young life gone".
