Tributes pour in for man, 23, killed by a car in late night crash

Tributes have been pouring in after a young man was killed late at night in Widnes last night.

The collision happened on the A5080 Cronton Lane, near the junction with College Fields in Widnes at around 11.52pm on Saturday September 18.

The 23-year-old man was taken to Whiston Hospital with serious injuries after the crash where medics were unable to save him.

The man's family have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers, police said today.

People took to social media to pay tribute.

Lorna Pope wrote: "It’s not sad it’s heartbreaking. [My] thoughts are with his family and friends at this sad time."

Tony WIlky said: "RIP young man."

One person commented on the original story published by the ECHO : "I live in the parklands in Widnes and we heard about this last night, such a sad time for all involved and RIP young man."

Another person commented: "RIP. What a shame. x"

The driver of a red Vauxhall Corsa involved in the crash, who remained at the scene, was uninjured.

No arrests have been made following the incident.

Cheshire Police is appealing for members of the public who may have seen the collision or anyone who may have video footage to come forward as enquiries continue.

A spokesperson for Cheshire Police said: "Police are appeal for witnesses and video footage following a fatal collision in Widnes

"At around 11.52pm on Saturday 18 September police were called to reports of a collision on the A5080 Cronton Road, near to the junction with College Fields.

"Officers attended the scene and found there had been a collision between a red Vauxhall Corsa and a pedestrian.

"The pedestrian, a 23-year-old local man, sustained serious injuries and was taken to Whiston Hospital.

"Sadly, despite the best efforts of all those involved, he passed away a short time later. His next of kin have been informed and they are being supported by specialist officers.

"The driver of the car was uninjured.

"Enquiries in relation to the collision are ongoing and no arrests have been made at this time.

"As part of their enquiries officers are keen to hear from anyone who witnessed the collision, or anyone with any CCTV or dashcam footage which may aid the investigation."
