Tributes pour in for legendary Skid Row drummer Noel Bridgeman who died today following short battle with cancer

Musicians from around the world are paying tribute to legendary Irish drummer Noel Bridgeman who died today.

The talented musician - who played and recorded with Skid Row, Mary Black, The Waterboys, Van Morrison, Christy Moore to name just a few - passed away this morning following a short battle with cancer.

Waterboys frontman Mike Scott was one of many stars from the music world to pay their respects to the hugely popular Raheny man today.

Scott tweeted: "I'm very sorry to say the drummer Noel Bridgeman, one of Dublin's greatest-ever musicians, and a great Waterboy, passed away this morning after a short battle with cancer. He taught me so much. A pioneer, a gentleman and a great spirit. Travel on well, my friend."

Over on Facebook, singer and guitarist Brendan Finglas posted: "Today I lost my best friend Noel Bridgeman after a short illness, I will always miss you. Rest in peace my friend."

Francis Black wrote on Twitter:" I am so sorry to hear that the great drummer & singer Noel Bridgeman has passed away.

"I will never forget the first time I heard Noel sing ‘Across the Universe’ it was mind blowing!my deepest condolences to his family & all who loved him."

Niall Stokes, editor of Irish music bible Hot Press, also paid tribute to the "working class hero" on the magazine's website.

He wrote: “He was a brilliant musician, and he was also a lovely guy. He was a real, genuine Dub, and a man who never lost touch with those roots. Noel was the embodiment of that line of John Lennon’s: ‘A working class hero is something to be’. He was that and more."
