Tributes pour in for 'kind soul' Robert Gunn found dead in River Thurso

Tributes are pouring in for a 'lovely' man whose body was pulled from a river in the Highlands.

Robert Gunn was tragically discovered in the River Thurso in Halkirk around 8.30am on Sunday morning.

The tragedy came after he went missing from Caithness at around 6pm on Saturday.

A major police search operation involving helicopters had been launched in the area for Robert.

Devastated loved ones paid tribute to Robert who was described as a 'star' on social media.

One person wrote: "So sad.

"RIP Robert.

"He was a lovely guy."

Another friend added: "So sad.

"Robert was a star!"

A third pal commented: "So sad.

"Robert will be missed in the village."

A fourth friend posted: "Absolutely heartbreaking.

"Robert was such a kind soul with a beautiful heart."

Shocked residents had been asked to check sheds and outbuildings in a bid to find him just hours before the tragic discovery.

There are no suspicious circumstances surrounding his death.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "A body was discovered in the River Thurso in Halkirk around 8.30am this morning.

"It has sadly been confirmed as missing man Robert Gunn.

"There are no suspicious circumstances surrounding his death."
