Tributes pour in for couple found dead at home on Boxing Day as 19-year-old charged

Tributes have poured in for an elderly couple found dead in their home on Boxing Day.
The bodies of Denis and Mary Fell, both 73, were discovered by police officers at Raeburn Rigg in Deans.
Police have confirmed a 19-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with the deaths.
He is due to appear at Livingston Sheriff Court tomorrow (Wednesday).

DCI Kevin Houliston from Police Scotland’s Major Investigation Team officers would remain in the area but stressed there was no risk to the wider public.

He continued: “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of Mr and Mrs Fell and everyone affected by this tragic incident.
“A continued presence may be seen in the area as officers continue with their enquiries but this was a contained incident and there was no risk to the wider public.”
Neighbours of the couple say they have lived in the street for many years and are well known.

One told the Daily Record: “They’d always say hello if you were passing. I believe they have two grown-up children and you’d see their son and his young kids popping in for a visit on occasion.

“I came home at around 1.30am and the street was filled with police. I knew something bad had happened but I’d never have imagined it was something like this.”
Another added: “They were a lovely older couple who really kept themselves to themselves over the last couple of years.
“I’d seen him pushing her in a wheelchair a few times and they have a disabled parking spot right outside their house to make it easier for Mary to get out and about. It’s really tragic.”

Officers were made aware of the deaths around 11.40pm on Sunday, 26 December, 2021, at a property in Raeburn Rigg, in the town.

A blue forensics tent was erected outside the front door of the end-terrace house while a large cordon was thrown up around the scene.
Forensic officers arrived at the scene at around midday on Monday and memory cards containing footage from private CCTV cameras installed in several nearby properties were collected.
