Tributes pour in for 'bubbly' Scots tot Iain Mackay who died in Highlands road crash

Tributes have been paid to a 'bubbly' Scots tot who was killed in a horror smash in the Highlands.

Iain Mackay, from Wick, was killed in the crash on the A99 on Sunday.

Emergency services raced to the road at Occumster around 4.45pm after a blue Peugeot 208 collided with a blue Nissan Qashqai.

Two-year-old Iain was rushed to the Royal Hospital for Children in Glasgow to be treated for his injuries but sadly died.

The 25-year-old female driver and 26-year-old passenger, both from the Peugeot, were also raced to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary with serious injuries.

The 44-year-old female driver of the Nissan was also seriously injured in the crash and taken to Raigmore Hospital.

Now heartbroken friends and family members are paying tribute to the tot who lost his life.

One person wrote: "I don’t think there can be any worse thing in this world than losing a child. Heartfelt condolences to his family and may he now be in the arms of an angel."

A second person added:"Absolutely heartbreaking. Such a happy wee manny with a cheeky smile. Life's unbelievably cruel to the best."

"The most funny, bubbly little boy you will ever meet. You always knew how to make us laugh.

"Don't stop dancing up there. Fly high, wee man, love and miss you loads."

A third person said: "The saddest and most heartbreaking thing no words will ever be enough.

"Life is cruel and makes no sense it's just not right or fair that this beautiful little man has gone."

A fourth added: "What a sin. Such a lovely little boy. My heart bleeds for his family and little friends. RIP little man."

Another wrote: "What a gorgeous wee boy, full of life. So sad."

Sergeant David Miller, from the Dingwall Road Policing Unit, said: “At this time, our thoughts are very much with Iain’s family, following their unbearably tragic loss.

“Three women also sustained serious injuries as a result of this incident and we are appealing for anyone with information to please assist our enquiries, as we work to establish the full circumstances.

“If you were in the area and may have seen either of the cars involved, or have possible dashcam footage which could help our investigation, please get in touch with police.”

Anyone with information can contact police via 101, quoting incident number 2828 of 22 August.
