Tributes pour in for Brooke Reid McMaster, 12, who died in Ballykeel house fire

Tributes have flooded in for 12-year-old Brooke Reid McMaster who tragically died in a house fire in Co Antrim.

Emergency services were called to the scene at Staffa Drive in Ballykeel, Ballymena on Wednesday shortly before 6pm.

Brooke attended Dunclug College in the area.

Principal Mrs Ruth Wilson has offered her heartfelt sympathies to the family circle at this sad time.

She said: "The staff and pupils of Dunclug College record deep sorrow on the tragic death of their beloved pupil, Brooke Reid, in Year 9, and send support and prayers to her grieving parents and family circle.

"Suffer the little ones to come unto me."

Local SDLP Councillor Eugene Reid also paid respects to the schoolgirl's family.

He told Belfast Live : "This is a terrible tragedy that has been visited upon this family in Ballymena and I pass on my heartfelt condolences and prayers to Brook's mother and her extended family.

"I'm sure the Ballykeel community will rally around them at this terrible time and I'm sure I speak for people from all over Ballymena when I say that our thoughts are with them all."

Ballykeel Pentecostal Church have asked the community to pray for the entire local community.

A spokesperson said: "As I am sure most of you are aware young Brooke Reid, who would have attended our Campaigners for a number of years, tragically lost her life in a house fire yesterday evening.

"The sympathies and condolences of the whole church family have been expressed to the family, with whom we are in contact.

"I would ask you we all pray for the family and the community at Ballykeel at this difficult and sad time."

Local Councillor Matthew Armstrong also paid tribute to the family after this "unspeakable and unimaginable" tragedy.

He told Belfast Live : "My deepest sympathies to the family and everyone involved. It is an unspeakable and unimaginable tragic event and one in an area that has sadly been no stranger to tragedies in last short period of time.

"Sometimes in all honesty there are no words to express or even to imagine what the family are going through at the minute. I am truly devastated and heartbroken for them all."

The Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service attended the scene shortly before 6pm on Wednesday evening.

A spokesperson added: "Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus entered the house, extinguished the fire and recovered the body of a 12-year-old girl.

"The cause of the fire is under investigation.

"NIFRS tenders its sympathies to the family of this young girl on their tragic loss."
