Tributes pour in for 'amazing and happy' Limerick woman who died in yacht accident in Italy

Tributes have been pouring in for an Irishwoman who tragically died in a yacht accident in Italy over the weekend.

Popular Breffni O'Connor, 30, has been described as an "amazing" and selfless person.

It's believed the Limerick woman died last Friday night after slipping into the water while working on a yacht in the port of Ancona.

She studied zoology and animal biology while at University of Glasgow in Scotland.

In a poignant post, the college's union said: "She was funny, kind, caring, passionate, robust, the best friend and a brilliant Board Member.

"Her smile would light up a room and she’d talk to anyone. Indeed in a recent visit to Glasgow she took time to come into the Union and chat with all the current Board Members. She was, quite simply, a star!

"The President and the Board of Management cannot express enough how sorry we are and our deepest, heartfelt condolences go to all of Breffni’s family and friends."

A friend said: "So sad to hear of Breffni's death she was an amazing friendly and happy girl who had always had time for others."

Another commented: "Such an amazing young woman always happy and always helping others was always saying Hi even if not in the union. Such a big loss to her family and the unions family."

The Department of Foreign Affairs said it is providing consular assistance to Breffni's family.

Local councillor Emmett O'Brien told the Irish Mirror Breffni's family are well-known in the Adare-Kildimo area.

He said: "The community state of shock significant tragedy young parishioner passing away in such unfortunate circumstances and express my condolences to the family."

Funeral arrangement have not yet been announced.
