Tipperary GAA in shock following sudden death of hurler Dillon Quirke

Tributes have poured in for young Tipperary hurler Dillon Quirke who has tragically passed away at the age of 24

Quirke was lining out for his club Clonoulty Rossmore in a Senior Hurling Championship clash when he collapsed during the game.

He received medical attention on the pitch before being taken to hospital by ambulance as the game was called off in the aftermath of the incident.

However, tragically, the 24-year-old was pronounced dead on Friday evening.

The Tipperary County Board has confirmed that all games this weekend have been cancelled.

In a statement released on Friday night, they said: "Due to the tragic sad passing of Dillon Quirke from Clonoulty Rossmore, the Tipperary CCC has decided to call off all games under its jurisdiction this weekend.

"The Committee sends its deepest sympathy to the Quirke family and the people of Clonoulty Rossmore."

Quirke started all four Championship games this summer for Tipperary and lined out at wing back on each occasion.

And a number of tributes have come in with Tipperary club Durlas Og saying: "The thoughts and prayers of everyone in Durlas Og are with the Quirke Family and @ClonRossGAA tonight following the sudden and tragic passing of Dillon Quirke. Ar dheis de go raibh an anam."

On Twitter, supporters and followers of the sport reacted with shock at the news and offered their sympathy to Dillon's family...
