Tributes pour in as second victim of Duleek, Co Meath crash named locally as John Enright

Tributes have poured in after the second victim of the tragic car crash in Duleek, County Meath was named locally as John Enright of Ardcath.

Two men died in a horror three-vehicle crash in Duleek at around 6.40 am on Thursday morning.

The driver of a van, a man aged in his 40s, was pronounced dead at the scene.

A man in his 30s, who was the sole occupant of one of the cars involved in the collision, was rushed to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in nearby Drogheda, but was later pronounced dead.

After the first victim was named as Drogheda United coach David Conroy, the second has now been named locally as John Enright.

And dozens of people have paid their condolences upon hearing the news.

One wrote: "Very sorry to hear this sad news. I have great memories of us from our time in school. Condolences to the Enright family at this sad time"

While a second said: "Deepest sympathy to the Enright family on the sudden, sad passing of Johnny."

Gardai are now appealing for any witnesses to the tragic incident to come forward.

They are also seeking the help of road users in the area shortly before or after the crash, who may have dash cam footage that can assist the investigation.

A spokesman said: "Gardaí are currently at the scene of a fatal road traffic collision involving three vehicles that occurred on the R152 at Keenogue, Duleek, County Meath, at approximately 6:40am on Thursday, 19th August, 2021.

"The driver and only occupant of a van involved in this collision, a man in his 40s, was pronounced dead at the scene.

"A man in his 30s who was the driver and only occupant of a car involved in this collision was taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda, with serious injuries. This man has since passed away.

"No other serious injuries were reported."
