Tributes pour in after Waterford FC legend Noel Griffin passes away

Tributes have poured in after former Waterford FC star Noel Griffin passed away today.

Defender Griffin enjoyed a successful career with the South Eastern club after signing in 1957.

He was key man when Waterford won the League of Ireland Championship for the first ever time in 1966 and he won another in '68 .

Griffin is also remembered to have kept the great George Best scoreless when the Blues came up against English giants Manchester United in the European Cup back in 1968.

Waterford FC took to Twitter this evening to offer their condolences to his family.

The club said: "Waterford FC is saddened to hear of the passing of Blues legend Noel Griffin.

"Noel represented the Blues against Manchester United in our European Cup game '68. We wish to share our deepest condolences to Noel's wife Helen, their children and wider family."
