"We extend our deepest condolences to his heartbroken family.

"We are asking club members to form a guard of honour at 12.30 on Saturday to line the road from Eoghan's home to Monaleen Church for 1pm mass.

"Eoghan's cortege will pass his home again after the Mass and we would like club members to line the route from the church again after Mass. Please wear your Monaleen Colours.

"Ar Dheis Dé a raibh a h-anam dilís."

And Limerick TD Willie O'Dea added: "My sincere condolences to the Kelliher family on your very sad loss. May he rest in peace."

While the Limerick City Special Olympics Club also sent their condolences to the Kelliher family, who were heavily involved in the organisation.

They added: "All at Limerick City Special Olympics Club are saddened at the passing of Eoghan Kelliher after a long illness, one of our founding members Mick Kelliher's son and the brother of long standing athlete Shane.

"No words are enough, thoughts and prayers to the Kelliher family. RIP young man."

Eoghan's funeral was held at the Mary Magdalene Church in Monaleen on Saturday afternoon.

A post on RIP.ie reads: "Eoghan died peacefully, at home. Adored youngest son of Mick & Maria and dearly loved brother of Aisling, Shane, Brian and the late Meaghan.

"Deeply regretted by his loving parents & siblings, grandmother Joan (Kelliher), aunts, uncles, cousins, schoolmates at Castletroy College and his many friends.

"May He Rest in Peace."
