Emergency services are in mourning after the sudden death of "gentleman and legend" worker Tony Mahon.

The Dad-of-three sadly died suddenly on Tuesday leaving his family and friends devastated.

Condolences have been flooding in for the Dubliner who later made himself at home in Newbridge.

One pal wrote: "Rip dear friend, your passing is having a massive effect on more people than you will ever know, hearts are broken and wont ever be repaired, you were loved by many many people.

"A true gentleman and a legend in emergency care in Ireland. We will never forget you buddy."

St John's Ambulance division described him as an "integral" member of their team and said they'll miss him "hugely."

They wrote: "On behalf of Tallaght Division past and present, we are heartbroken to hear of the passing of Tony Anthony Mahon.

"Tony was an integral member of Tallaght for too many years to recall. Between teaching, duties and general shenanigans, particularly on parade, we will miss him hugely."

Tony's funeral mass will be held at Sacred Heart in Clondalkin at 10am before he'll be laid to rest in Newlands Cross Cemetary.

A post on RIP.ie said : "Formerly of Greenvill Avenue, South Circular Road, Dublin. Son of the late Martin and Maureen.

"Sadly missed by his loving daughters Kim and Zara, son Mark and their mother Patricia Mahon, grandchildren Tegan, Jorja, Ben and Isabella, extended family, relatives, neighbours and friends.

"Reposing at Glennons Funeral Home, Eyre Street, Newbridge from 5pm on Friday with Rosary at 7-30pm.

"Removal on Saturday morning to arrive at Sacred Heart Presbytery, St. John’s Drive, Clondalkin (D22 W1W6) for 10 o'clock Requiem Mass. Burial afterwards in Newlands Cross Cemetery."

Only family are asked to leave flowers with donations, if desired, being directed to The Irish Guide Dogs.
