Tributes pour in after deaths of John Sheridan's mother and father over Christmas

Tributes have been pouring in following the deaths of John Sheridan's mother and father over Christmas.

Both of the former Republic of Ireland player's parents sadly passed away over the festive period.

Sheridan managed Waterford FC earlier this year and the club were among those to pay tribute this morning.

They tweeted: "Waterford FC would like to share its deepest condolences to former manager John Sheridan on the passing of both his mother and father over the Christmas period in what was no doubt a very difficult time for him.

"Our thoughts and prayers go out to John and his family."

The Sheffield Wednesday FC Supporters club posted: "Our thoughts this afternoon are with a true Wednesday legend, John Sheridan, who lost both his parents over the Christmas period.

"Best wishes John at this very sad time for you."

Sheridan managed Waterford for eight games last season before moving back to England.

He is currently managing League One side Swindon Town after briefly taking charge of Wigan for 15 matches.

Swindon face MK Dons in one of only four games in League One tonight.

One Swindon face said: "Thoughts with John Sheridan at this time. To lose both of his parents over the holidays is heartbreaking.

"I can’t fathom what he is going through at the moment. Just hope the team put a performance for him tonight."
