Tributes pour in after All-Ireland winning Tipperary legend Paddy Doyle passes away

Tipperary GAA is in mourning after former All-Ireland winning hurler Paddy Doyle passed away aged 79.

The Thurles Sarsfields vice-chairman, brother of fellow Tipp legend Jimmy Doyle, won an All-Ireland hurling title with the Premier County in 1965.

A decorated club player, Doyle won seven Tipperary county titles with Sarsfields and also managed Borris-Ileigh to a club All-Ireland in 1987.

A versatile athlete, Doyle captained the Tipperary footballers, represented Thurles Golf Club as well as winning a Munster and Ireland crown in Badminton.

Doyle was inducted into Sarsfields' hall of fame last year for his part in the club's historic Tipperary five-in-a-row triumph from 1961 to '65.

Thurles Sarsfields said: "The club sends its sympathies to the family and friends of club stalwart Paddy Doyle who has passed away".

Lorrha GAA, who Doyle later managed, said: "Sympathies to the Doyle family, Thurles on the death of Paddy Doyle. Paddy coached Lorrha to the north final in 1996 and left a lasting impression on all he crossed paths with in Lorrha."
