Tributes pour for kind, talented athlete living in Castleknock cruelly taken from family

An Irish community is in mourning following the death of a much-beloved local Gael Culleton.

Ms Culleton, who lived in Castleknock, was a talented athlete who competed with Ballytarsna A.C. and Thurles Crokes A.C.

The Tipperary native was diagnosed with cancer in 2013 and battled the deadly disease with "great courage and dignity", a moving tribute said dying in her home surrounded by family

Ms Culleton loved to travel and had visited visited a number of countries including India, China, Australia, Kenya, Peru, USA, and several European countries.

She lived an active life climbing Mount Kilimanjaro, running Dublin City Marathon, Amsterdam marathon, among many more.

The notice on RIP.ie said: "Gael passed away peacefully at her home, in the loving care of her family following a long illness borne with great courage and dignity. Beloved daughter of the late Mary.

"Dearly loved daughter of Noel and Breda, cherished sister of Frank, Joe, Tracy and Dursey, devoted aunt to her nephews Mike, Jamie, Codie, Darragh and her treasured niece Sarah.

"Sadly missed by her loving family, brother-in-law, sisters-in-law, aunts, uncles, cousins, work colleagues, neighbours and many close friends."
