Tributes have been paid to a young student after her sudden death at just 20 years old.
Deirdre Fitzgerald, from Elphin, Co Roscommon, passed away at University Hospital Galway on Wednesday, April 17.
She was a second year student at Galway-Mayo Institute of Technology (GMIT) in Galway city.
Student Services GMIT shared a tribute on their Facebook page writing: "On Wednesday night, we were heartbroken to hear that one of our students, Deirdre Fitzgerald, from Year 2 International Tourism had passed away suddenly.
"GMIT reopens on Tuesday and our counsellors will be available next week and when the students return to support any student affected by the loss of their friend/classmate.

" Student Services and GMIT Students' Union will be represented at the funeral and we send our condolences to her mother Geraldine and extended family. May Deirdre Rest In Peace."
A death notice on RIP.ie reads: "In the arms of her loving mother and family. Pre-deceased by her father Peter and grandparents Thomas and Phil O'Meara.
"Adored daughter of Geraldine. Deeply regretted and sadly missed by her heartbroken mother Geraldine (nee O'Meara) and her partner John Lowry, aunts Jacinta, Phil, Bríd, Deirdre and Carmel, her beloved cousins, extended family her cherished friends and neighbours."

Deirdre's wake will be held at the home of her aunt Carmel McLoughlin, Attirory, Carrick-on-Shannon from 2pm until 5pm today and on Sunday from 2pm until 4pm with removal to St. Mary's Church, Carrick-on-Shannon arriving at 7pm.
Her family have requested their house private from 4pm on Sunday.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held in St Mary's Church at 12pm with funeral afterwards to St. Mary's Cemetery.
