Tributes paid to 'wonderful' Cork teacher Elma Twomey after her untimely death

Tributes have been paid after the untimely passing of Cork teacher Elma (Ellie) Twomey.

Ms Twomey was the Deputy Principal of Carrignafoy Community College in Cobh.

The hugely popular teacher was rushed to Dublin on Saturday night for an organ transplant but sadly passed away.

A spokesperson for the Carrignafoy teachers' association said: "Ms Twomey was always a wonderful support to us on the Parents Association and a true friend.

"Our deepest sympathies and most sincere condolences go to her family, work colleagues and friends at this truly devastating time."

Cork toddler who vanished and was found tracked down man who saved her life 

Carrignafoy Community College shared a statement on their Facebook page which read: "It is with great sadness that we wish to inform you that our Deputy Principal Ms. Elma Twomey passed away early yesterday morning, as a result of complications following serious heart surgery.

"Elma will be remembered by her colleagues and the students she dealt with over the years for her compassion and care.

"At this difficult time our thoughts and prayers are with her family and friends. May she rest in peace."

A funeral notice on RIP.ie reads: "Elma passed away unexpectedly at the Mater Hospital Dublin. Much loved daughter of Helen and the late David, dear sister of Norma, Noel, Greta and Joey.

"Sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her mother, sisters, brother, brothers-in-law Donal, John and Richard, nephew Conor, nieces Keira and Abby, relatives, neighbours, work colleagues and her many friends.

A wake will take place at Ronayne's Funeral Home in Fermoy this evening from 5pm to 7pm followed by removal to the Church of the Immaculate Conception in Rathcormac.

A requiem Mass Friday at 12 noon, funeral afterwards to the local cemetery. Family flowers only, donations in lieu, if desired, to the Irish Heart Foundation please.
