Tributes paid to Wishaw mum-of-two who worked tirelessly for suicide awareness charity

A well-loved Wishaw woman who was an ambassador for Chris’s House has passed away suddenly, aged just 50.

Pauline Adams, who was also known under her married name of McLeish, was a trustee of the suicide awareness charity having joined over a year ago.

The mum-of-two from Overtown had also previously been a trustee for the Les Hoey MBE DreamMaker Foundation.

Before that she had been involved with the Make a Wish Foundation for around 15 years.

Pauline, who is survived by her sons Ryan and Ben, had been busy helping to organise a charity ball for Chris’s House which is due to take place this week.

Anne Rowan, Chris’s House founder, paid tribute to her colleague, saying: “Pauline was wholly committed to her work at Chris’s House and worked away in the background.

“She was well loved and very well respected, and a fabulous trustee for us.

“But we’re not just board members, we became friends and gelled well.

“Pauline was a private lady and very dignified in everything that she did. We are absolutely devastated.”

Angela Cook, at Les Hoey MBE DreamMaker Foundation, also paid tribute to the mum-of-two.

She said: “Pauline was an integral part of the start-up of Les Hoey MBE DreamMaker Foundation.

“She gave us an office free of charge for the first two years of the charity’s life which made a massive difference to us.

“She put her heart and soul into everything she did.

“Everybody at the charity is devastated and our thoughts are with her son Ben and the rest of her family.”

Charity founder Les Hoey was left devastated when his son Darren Hoey, 34, took his own life in June of this year.

Pauline had celebrated her 50th birthday in December last year and responding to a friend who commented on a picture she posted on Facebook, she said: “Not bad for 1/2 century. That’s what happiness does for you”. The comment was accompanied by a love heart emoji.

Following his mum’s death Ben posted a picture of them both together.

His brother Ryan re-posted a poignant message that had appeared just a few months ago on Chris’s House Facebook page.

It begins: “If you are walking through fire just now please remember we are here, we understand what that feels like and we are here to help you put out your flames.”
