Tributes paid to 'true gent' after tragic passing of young Wexford man

Tributes have poured in after the tragic passing of a young Wexford sports star following a battle with illness.

Conor Ruttledge, of The Faythe in Wexford, died on Sunday evening.

He is survived by his parents Kenny and Suzanne and his brother Ryan.

Conor was heavily involved in sports in Wexford, particularly soccer as he lined out for both Wexford Albion at underage and Wexford Bohs when playing senior.

Wexford Bohs FC led the tributes on social media, posting on their Facebook that: "Conor was a tough no nonsense defender, always reliable whether it be at training or on match days. Conor's wit on and off the pitch made him very popular amongst his teammates and brightened up the Saturday mornings in Drinagh. Conor stayed true to character throughout his illness keeping up the banter and wit even in the darkest days.

"Our thoughts are with the Ruttledge and Flynn Families and his many many friends."

While Wexford Albion wrote: "All of us here at Wexford Albion would like to wish our condolences to the Ruttledge family after the passing of one of our former players Conor. Conor played for Albion at all underage groups up to U16, and his father Kenny was a great asset to the club as a coach.

"Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this time. He will be fondly remembered by everyone, not just in Albion but in Wexford Town"

One person who knew Conor wrote: "He was a truly lovely young man and it was a privilege to have known him. May he rest in peace."

Another comment read: "Conor was a true gent with a warm heart and an infectious smile. He will be sorely missed"

Conor’s removal will take place from his home to the Church of the Assumption Bride Street tomorrow (Wednesday) morning for 10 a.m. funeral mass.

The mass will be streamed on the parish website for those unable to attend. Burial will take place afterwards at St Ibar’s Cemetery, Crosstown.
