Tributes paid to tragic young nurse Kerrie Browne who died in crash on her way home from work

Tributes have been paid to a tragic young nurse who died in a crash on her way home from work.

Kerrie Browne, 26, a native of Brosna in Co Kerry, was killed in a collision between her car and a jeep at Meenleitrim, Castleisland, at around 8am on Tuesday morning.

Emergency services treated Kerrie at the scene but sadly she passed away before she could be taken to hospital.

The driver of the jeep was taken to University Hospital Kerry with non-life threatening injuries.

Kerrie had spent several years working in London and competed in the London Rose contest while she lived there, Independent.ie reports.

She had recently returned home after finding a job at University Hospital Kerry.

Support for Nurses, Midwives and Frontline Staff in Ireland shared a poignant tribute to Kerrie on their Facebook page which read: "Incredibly sad news this evening.

"Yet again we have lost a nursing colleague in tragic circumstances.

"A young woman who lost her life in a road accident in Kerry this morning has been named locally as Kerrie Browne aged 26.

"Kerrie worked as a nurse at University Hospital Kerry in Tralee.

"It is understood she was on her way home after finishing her night shift when the accident occurred in Castleisland.

"To Kerrie's family, friends and colleagues we extend our deepest sympathies. Our hearts are broken for you.

"Kerrie cared for so many in her short life. Her work here on this earth is done. God has called her home. Thank you Kerrie from all of us.

"May her gentle soul rest in eternal peace. Ar dheis De go raibh a h-anam dilís."

Gardaí at Tralee are appealing for any witnesses to the accident to come forward, particularly any motorists who were travelling in the area at the time and may have dash cam footage.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Tralee Garda Station on 066 7102300, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda Station.
