Tributes paid to tragic man who drowned in freak fishing accident in River Boyne

Tributes have been paid to a man who drowned in a freak fishing accident at the weekend.

Cormac Wall, 35, fell into the River Boyne just outside Drogheda in Co Louth on Saturday afternoon.

Gardai, Coast Guard units and the Boyne Fisherman’s Rescue and Recovery Service attended the scene after receiving reports that someone had gotten into difficulty in the water.

His body was recovered from the river near Townley Hall just before 4pm and taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital.

Mr Wall, who was from nearby Slane, Co Meath, was remembered fondly by Navan and District Darts League, who said: “Condolences to the Wall family and Lynches dart team on the passing of Cormac Wall (Mickey) RIP.”

Another well-wisher said: “Life comes and goes from the young to the old, no reason given and we shall never be told, a loss for all when God makes that call, why we ask have they done their task, for they will be memories of our past.

“R.I.P. Cormac.”

Gardai confirmed that officers are investigating the circumstances surrounding the recovery of the body.

A postmortem examination is scheduled to take place in the coming days.

The funeral for Mr Wall will take place in Slane on Wednesday.
