Tributes paid to teenage bike crash victim Calvin Gilchrist as friends and family fly lanterns in his memory

A GoFundMe has been set up for teenage bike crash victim Calvin Gilchrist as dozens of friends and family gathered this evening to fly lanterns in memory of the youngster.

The 19 year old was the driver of one of the bikes involved in the crash on the Finglas Road in Glasnevin at around 10:15pm on Saturday night.

He and another teenage boy, a passenger on one of the motorbikes, were rushed from the scene to the Mater Hospital.

Mr Gilchrist was pronounced dead at the hospital, while the passenger, aged in his mid-teens, remains in hospital this afternoon in a stable condition.

This evening, dozens of friends and family flew lanterns in memory of the teenager.

Music was played and countless flowers were brought to pay tribute to Mr Gilchrist.

An online fundraiser has been set up to cover the funeral costs of the youngster, raising over €10,000 in less than 48 hours.

Creator of the GoFundMe, Joanne Smith said: "As a community we are left devastated and shocked by the sudden loss of Calvin under such tragic circumstances.

"Calvin was 19 years of age and died in such a sudden tragic way. No family would ever dream this nightmare would come their way.

"We would like to help his mother Leanne and his family in any way we can with funeral costs.

"Any help is greatly appreciated towards Calvin's funeral."
