Tributes have been paid to a talented young hurler who tragically died in a car crash in the early hours of Tuesday morning.
John Daly, 18, was killed in a single car crash near his home in Cratloe, Co Clare, shortly before 3am.
The popular teenager was pronounced dead at the scene with a garda investigation underway into the tragedy.
Local councillor Patrick O'Gorman described John as a "lovely fella" and said the community has been left in a state of shock.
The Fianna Fail representative told the Irish Mirror: "We are all shocked and saddened here after we heard the news this morning.
"He was a well-known young lad, played hurling all his life with the local GAA club, he was a fierce nice chap.
"All we can say is our thoughts are with the family and we are all shocked by what has happened."
Local GAA club Cratloe whom John was an exciting young player for paid tribute after they learned the news.
A spokesperson said: "This morning, we learned of the tragic passing of one of our young players, John Daly.
"The whole community is shocked and deeply saddened and the club would like to extend our sincere sympathies to John’s parents Sean and Linda and his twin sister Claire, extended family, neighbours, friends and teammates.
"It is particularly difficult in these unprecedented times, when all you want to do is reach out, console and support each other as a club and community like we have done at tragic times in the past. Please look after each other, whatever way ye can and stay safe.
"Please light a candle in your homes over the next few nights in memory of John."
Gardai are asking anyone who may have been in the area at the time to contact them regarding their investigation.
A garda spokesperson said: "Gardaí are appealing for anyone with information, particularly and road users who travelled in the area who may have dash cam footage, to contact Henry Street Garda Station on 061 212 400 or the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111. "
This was the second tragic road accident in Munster in the space of 24 hours after a man in his 30s was killed while walking on a busy road in Cork.
The man, aged in his 30s, was walking on the N25 near Carrigtwohill after 1am Tuesday morning when he was struck by a car.
The vehicle failed to remain at the scene and the man was pronounced dead by emergency services a short time later.
Gardai don't currently have a description of the vehicle but believe it was travelling westbound and are appealing for anyone who may have been in the area to get in contact.
