The post from Kilwinning AFC said: "It is with a heavy heart I am writing this post to inform everyone about the recent passing of our manager Michael Howie.

"Michael started the team back in 2019 and the team was his pride and joy, he was an amazing big guy and touched the hearts of so many not just in football but in the wider community.

"He’ll never know how much he meant to so many.

"We would just like to pass our condolences onto Michael’s family and loved ones."

A statement on the Go Fund Me page, which was launched by Darren Feeney, said: "Anyone that knew Michael knows he deserved the absolute world, and we want to make sure he gets the send off he deserves.

"This man had a positive effect on everyone he crossed paths with and nothing will express the love that everyone shared for him.

"The family have given us permission to set this up on their behalf, to raise funds to help cover the cost of Michael’s funeral.

"Any excess money will go to Michael’s family.

"Anything thereafter will be donated to ‘Back Onside’ a charity close to Michael’s heart.

"This donation will be made in Michael’s name.

"Any contributions made by anyone, big or small, will be massively appreciated."
