Tributes paid to 'respected' flight instructor killed in Wexford plane tragedy

A man killed in the Wexford plane tragedy has been described as a "respected pilot and flight instructor".

Talented Peter Tawse, 61, and 58-year-old John Finnan tragically died in the light aircraft crash on Sunday evening.

Peter, who worked as Waterford Regional Airport's manager between 1987 and 2002, had been teaching people to fly since 1982.

On Monday, the airport posted a touching tribute on social media, describing Peter as a "great talent".

A statement said: "It was with great shock and sadness that we heard Peter Tawse passed away on Sunday, October 6.

"During this period he steered the airport through some difficult times.

"As well as his dedication to the Airport he was heavily involved in general aviation and was a respected pilot and flight instructor of great talent.

"He will be remembered fondly by his former airport colleagues. Our thoughts are with his wife Kay, his family and friends at this time."

One person added: "A true gentlemen, a great loss to aviation."

Meanwhile, John Finnan's funeral arrangements have been announced.
