Tributes paid to 'real legend' of Nottingham Panthers Gary Moran who has died from cancer

Officials at Nottingham Panthers have issued a tribute following the death of a key figure in the club.

The Nottingham Panthers today confirmed former General Manager of the hockey club, Gary Moran, passed away early on the morning of Monday, December 27.

Mr Moran stood down from his off-ice duties as a General Manager on December 10 after being diagnosed with Cancer.

He had been involved with the Panthers for more than 40 years as a reporter, commentator, writer, broadcaster and, most recently, in the General Manager role.

During his time as ‘GM the GM’, the Panthers more than doubled their average attendance and won one League Championship, five Play Offs, eight Challenge Cups, one IIHF Continental Cup and most recently the 2021 Elite Series.

A tribute will take place before this afternoon's game against Sheffield.

Chairman Neil Black, on behalf of the Panthers, said: "Gary, GM the GM, was the pulse of the Panthers for over 25 years, a real legend whose contribution to all things black & gold was truly incredible.

"We will all miss him enormously & our thoughts and condolences go out to Audrey, Jo, Paul & Stef and all of their family at this very sad time."
