Tributes paid to 'pure gentleman' killed after being hit car on Edinburgh's Queensferry Road

Tributes have been paid to a pedestrian who died following a crash on an Edinburgh  road.

Ian Meldrum was struck by a Nissan Note on , between the junctions with Parkgrove Avenue and Drum Brae North at around 9.10pm on Tuesday,  January 7.

The 63-year-old, from the Corstorphine area, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Heartbroken friends and family have shared their shock over his passing, describing Ian as a "pure gentleman" who will be "sorely missed".

In a statement his family said: “We are devastated, it is hard to come to terms with the news.

"Words will not describe how sorely he will be missed. We would like to thank those who stopped to help Ian, we are very thankful you were there.”

Writing on Facebook, Scott Meldrum said: "Gobsmacked rip Ian."

While Lesley Melville commented: "Lovely man. Pure gentleman".

And Shirley Graham posted: "thinking of all the family at this terrible time."

The Edinburgh  Police  Division tweeted that Queensferry Road was closed in both direction after the incident.

Drivers were urged to avoid the area while officials attend to the crash.

The road was closed for four hours.

Sergeant Jennifer Forbes, from the Road Policing Unit in Edinburgh said: “Our thoughts remain with Mr Meldrum’s family and friends at this difficult time.

“Our investigation is ongoing to establish the full circumstances of this tragic incident and we would urge anyone who may have seen this collision but have not yet spoken to an officer to come forward.

“We are grateful to everyone who has assisted our enquiries so far.”
