Tributes have been paid to a teenage boy who died after getting into difficulty in the River Clyde.
Aidan Rooney, from Wishaw, was pulled from the water at Garrion Bridge by emergency services on Sunday.
The 13-year-old was rushed to Glasgow's Royal Hospital for Children, but sadly couldn't be saved.
The headteacher of his school was among those who paid tribute to the popular teenager following his death, reports the Daily Record.
Claire Connelly, headteacher of St Aidan's High School, said: “We are deeply shocked and saddened at the news of Aidan's tragic passing.
"Aidan was a pupil in second year and was a very popular boy who liked to help others. Staff were very fond of him.
"We are supporting pupils and staff at this very difficult time. Our thoughts and prayers are with Aidan's family and friends.”
Expressing their devastation online, one family member posted: "In complete shock, so so tragic.
"My heart is breaking for your parents and brothers, rest in peace to my little cousin. Taken far too soon."
Another added: "RIP Aidan you were one of kind dude fly high and be with Sean he will look after sorry for your loss buddy we are all here for you."
A third wrote: "Thinking of the family and friends of Aidan. Keep your head up, we all have you and always here love you millions. Sending love."
Others simply added: "Rest in peace Aidan. You’ll be sadly missed."
Heartbroken relatives have now planned a balloon release in Aidan's memory this Saturday at King George Park in Wishaw.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "A 13-year-old boy has died after getting into difficulty in the River Clyde, near Garrion Bridge.
"Emergency services were contacted around 3.15pm on Sunday, June 13, 2021.
"There are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death."
