Tributes paid to pensioner found dead in Glasgow as man is arrested in connection with her death

A pensioner who was found dead at her home in Woodlands 'dedicated her life to helping others'.

Esther Brown has been described as an 'exceptionally kind, compassionate and caring individual' by her former friends and colleagues at the Woodlands Community Development Trust.

The 67-year-old had volunteered with her local organisation for over a decade and played an important role in their community garden.

Esther was found dead at her flat on West Princes Street on Tuesday, sparking a major police investigation and hunt for the person responsible.

The Woodlands Community Development Trust said: "We are devastated by the death of our dear friend Esther who has been a key volunteer in our organisation since 2010.

"Esther was a founding member of our community garden and her generous spirit was central to making the community garden a welcoming and inclusive place. For many years she also helped to run our community café and served on our board of charity trustees.

"Esther was an exceptionally kind, compassionate and caring individual who dedicated her life to helping others. Through her voluntary work she touched the lives and hearts of countless people and we will miss her terribly.

"Although in the immediate aftermath of Esther’s death we have had to cancel some events, we will find a way to bring people back together and help our community heal.

"Our Community Garden on West Princes Street is open for remembrance."

Police Scotland confirmed today that a 30-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the death.
