Tributes to 'best mannered boy in village' after body found in Paisley hospital grounds

Tributes have flooded in for a Neilston man who was tragically discovered dead in the grounds of Paisley's Royal Alexandra Hospital.

Stephen Quigley was found early on Wednesday morning, prompting police to appeal for information as they launched an investigation into his unexplained death.

The 26-year-old Renfrewshire man was named by police on Saturday, with tributes pouring in across social media shortly afterwards.

One person described Stephen as a 'lovely young lad', the Daily Record reports, while many others have shared their heartfelt condolences with his family and said the Renfrewshire man will be sadly missed.

They wrote: “Such a lovely young lad, will miss seeing you out. Heartbreaking, our thoughts are with the family and friends.”

Another said: “RIP Stephen. You were loved.”

A third person commented: “Rest in peace. One of the best mannered boys in the village. Too soon mate.”

And one wrote: “RIP Stephen, you’ll be missed lots, thinking of everyone, so gutted to hear this.”

Yesterday, we reported detectives believe he may have travelled from an address at Bourock Square in Barrhead to the hospital in a blue Ford Focus on Tuesday at 5pm. Officers are also to keen to get hold of any dash cam footage of a vehicle matching this description being driven erratically.

Afterwards, at around 2am on Wednesday, an assault took place in Bourock Square, leaving a 26-year-old man seriously injured.

Appealing to the public for information, Detective Chief Inspector Scott McCallum commented: "Stephen's family are being provided with support by specialist officers and have been updated. Our thoughts are with them at this time.

"We would urge anyone who believes they may have seen Stephen prior him being found on Wednesday morning to please get in touch as soon as possible.

"In particular, we are keen to speak to anyone who may have been driving near to the hospital, or in the area of Bourock Square, Barrhead, around 5pm on Tuesday, 23 March, and saw a blue Ford Focus.

"Anyone who can help our enquiries is asked to call 101, quoting reference number 0409 of 24 March. Alternatively, Crimestoppers can be called anonymously on 0800 555 111."

A Major Incident Public Portal (MIPP) has been set up online to allow to public to submit information directly to the Major Investigation Team.
