Tributes are being paid to a "beloved" dad-of-five who died tragically following an incident over the weekend.
Enda McCarney, from Co Monaghan, died after he entered the water in Carrick-On-Shannon in Co Leitrim on Sunday.
Gardai responded to reports that a man had entered the water and subsequently carried out searches, with a body later recovered from the River Shannon that evening.
Members of the force said at the time they were treating the man's death as a tragic accident.
Mr McCarney is being remembered as "a true gentleman" and "a lovely, smiley fellow" following the sad news of his death.
Castleblayney Hurling Club paid tribute by saying: "Castleblayney Hurling Club would like to extend sincere sympathies to committee member Catriona McCarney (Quirke) on the untimely and tragic passing of her husband Enda McCarney, Scotstown. Sympathies also to the extended McCarney and Quirke families. Ar Dheis De go raibh a anam."
Monaghan GAA added: "Monaghan GAA wishes to convey our deepest sympathies to Castleblayney Hurling County Board Delegate Catriona McCarney (Quirke), the McCarney and Quirke families on the very sad and untimely passing of Enda. Ar Dheis Dé go raibh a anam."
Condolences for the family have also been rolling in from friends and members of the local community in Scotstown.
One person said: "My deepest condolences to all the family on Enda's death, he was one of the nicest blokes I had the pleasure to know. RIP Enda."
A second said: "We are so so sad to hear this news of Enda whom we got to know care for and admire so much for his love of our beautiful friend Catriona and all their boys.
A third wrote: "We are so sorry that you have lost the love of your life and your soulmate Catriona, our hearts are breaking for you.
"To his boys, we are so sorry that you have lost your Dad, the gentle soul that set you on the path of life. To his sisters and extended family, our heartfelt sympathy goes to you all. His love for you all was evident when he spoke of you all."
"With deepest condolences to Enda’s wife children and the McCarney family on this sad sad time, a true gentleman who will be sadly missed. RIP Enda."
Someone else said: "I am so very sorry that Enda, a husband, daddy, son, and brother lost his young life in our town. May God give you strength and courage at this terrible time for you all. Rest In Peace Enda."
Another person added: "Sincere condolences to the McCarney family on the loss of Enda. A wonderful father to his boys. May Enda rest in peace."
One message of condolence read: "My deepest sympathy to Cathy, and the entire McCarney family on the very sad death of your beloved Enda, he was a true gentleman and genuinely nice guy. May he rest in peace. My thoughts and prayers are with you all at this very sad time."

While another said: "Deepest sympathy to all the Mc Carney family on Enda's sudden passing. A lovely, smiley fellow. May he rest in peace."
Mr McCarney will be laid to rest on Thursday.
A notice on RIP.ie reads: "The death has occurred of Enda Mc Carney, Derryledigan, Scotstown, Co. Monaghan, tragically and unexpectedly, Sunday, 13th February. Predeceased by his father Packie.
"Beloved and much-loved husband of Catriona and adored father of Caolan, Finn, Eanna, Emmett and Pearce. Devoted son of Monica and cherished brother of Cathy (Paul Lavery) and Carmel (Jim Mc Connon).
"Enda will be sadly missed and remembered with love by his wife, sons, mother, sisters, Catriona's parents Bridie and Bill Quirk, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, extended family, Enda and Catriona's biker friends and by all who knew and loved Enda."
His funeral Mass will be held at St Mary's Chapel, Urbleshanny for 11am on Thursday followed by Cremation in Lakelands Crematorium, Cavan.
