Tributes paid to missing Scots based climber in Himalayas after five bodies found

Tributes poured in yesterday for one of the missing Scots climbers in the Indian Himalayas following an avalanche.

Martin Moran, 64, of Strathcarron, Wester Ross, led seven others as they tried to scale an unclimbed peak in the Nanda Devi region.

Two other missing Scots were named as John McLaren, 60, from Cambuslang, near Glasgow , and Rupert Whewell, 49, whose family come from Aberfeldy, Perthshire.

Five bodies were discovered in the area on Monday. Their identities were not known last night.

Juliet Dawson paid tribute to Martin, praising his “spirit for adventures”.

Oliver Inness said: “This is a huge loss for so many people.”
