Tributes paid to missing Scot Murray Tanner after body found in search

Tributes have been paid to missing Scot Murray Tanner after a body was found in the search for him on Thursday afternoon.

Emergency services were called to the Corehouse area of Lanark by the Falls of Clyde around 1.45pm.

Formal identification is yet to take place but police last night confirmed that Murray's family have been informed.

Tributes poured in online for the 48-year-old Celtic fan as devastated pals described him as a "gem".

One said: "Absolutely gutted to hear this rip Murray you were one in a million to me thoughts with all the family. I will be cheering on the hoops for you on Sunday fly high big man."

Another added: "Awe Murray. I hope you're at peace now, gonna miss your daft banter oot the back. Totally gutted."

One person wrote: "Known him from a young boy, one of the nicest guys you would ever meet! RIP Murray"

While another added: "Rest easy Murray. You'll never walk alone."

Murray had been reported missing from his home in the Lapraik Avenue area of Muirkirk and was last seen around 11pm on Monday evening.

His disappearance was described as being out of character and concern was growing for his welfare.

Many described Murray as a "lovely" man who would be sadly missed as they sent their deepest condolences to his family.

One said: "Absolutely devastated to read this lovely guy , R.I.P Murray thinking of your family Michelle and your 3 weans big hugs to them all."

"You will be missed big yin," another person said. "My thoughts with all family and friends xx"

One wrote: "Rest in lease Murray. Absolute gem of a guy."

A friend added: "No words Murray one of a kind hearts breaking for your family."

A Police Scotland statement said: "The body of a man has been recovered from the River Clyde near Corehouse in Lanarkshire during the afternoon of Thursday, 26 August.

"The man is yet to be formally identified but the family of Murray Tanner, 48, who was reported missing from Muirkirk in Ayrshire on Monday, 23 August has been informed.

"There are no apparent suspicious circumstances and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal in due course."
