Tributes paid to ‘loving and loyal’ mum who died after ‘extreme’ pressure caused by lockdown

A heartbroken family have paid tribute to a young mum who died after the pressure of the lockdown proved too much.

Rebecca Catterall, who died suddenly in April last year, was described as a ‘loving and loyal daughter’ by her heartbroken family.

She leaves behind a six-year-old son, Dylan.

An inquest into the tragedy ended today, Cornwall Live reports.

After the hearing, her mum, Sonia, paid an emotional tribute to the 26-year-old, from Camborne, in Cornwall.

She said: “Becky was a vivacious young woman who always lived life to the full. She was charismatic, funny and had the most infectious laugh.

“She would do anything for her friends and family and was popular among her peers leaving a lasting impact wherever she went. She was an avid prankster, always targeting her poor mum.

“In her short 26 years she travelled around the world with her grandad visiting many countries along with her sisters.

“She was a devoted and loving mum to her six-year-old son Dylan whom she adored, and a fantastic sister to Jay, Jess, Georgia and Holly.

“Becky adored her Grandad Jim and was a loving and loyal daughter to Sonia and Chris. She was also a fantastic auntie to her six nieces and nephew.

“Becky had a few jobs in her time but she eventually settled in the family roofing business which she loved. Becky will be sadly missed by her family and all who knew her.”

On the weekend before her death she had been having relationship problems with her boyfriend, Ricky Corbin.

He called Rebecca’s father, Christian, to try and reason with her.

At one point during the conversation, she handed her father a note which she asked him to give to her son.

She said she was sorry she "wasn't the mummy she should have been' and she loves him 'more than he will ever know".

The family said the coronavirus lockdown put Rebecca under "extreme pressure".

Before the outbreak her son was cared for at school whilst she went to work. But the lockdown meant she became his full time carer and he had complex needs.

Meanwhile, she wasn’t able to receive the same level of support from her family because of the restrictions.

Coroner Guy Davies said: “We've heard details of the extreme pressure placed on Rebecca due to the circumstances of the pandemic and the restrictions that followed the pandemic and the consequences for Rebecca who was the sole carer for her son.”
