Tributes paid to 'lovely' young mum killed in horror Roscommon crash

Tributes have been paid to a young mum who was tragically killed in a horror crash in Co Roscommon.

Liga Smolaka, 35, died alongside Daniel Dolphin in the single vehicle collision on the R293 between Ballaghadereen and Gorteen in the early hours of Friday morning.

Another person was injured in the smash and was taken to hospital to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries, Galway Beo reports.

Emergency services rushed to the scene but 27-year-old Daniel was pronounced dead on arrival.

Liga was taken to Castlebar Hospital but sadly died a short time later.

And tributes have been pouring in for the mum-of-one who leaves behind daughter Viktorja and partner Andrejs.

One person who knew Liga told Galway Beo: "I can't say we were good friends or so, but we knew each other. She was such a lovely girl. It's just so bad, such a loss at a young age."

And Liga's family have now confirmed that she will be laid to rest in a funeral service in Co Cavan on Thursday.

A post on RIP.ie reads: "The death has occurred of Liga Smolaka, No. 70 Corn Mill, Ballymote, Co. Sligo, 11th of March 2022, following a road traffic accident. Deeply regretted and loved by her daughter Viktorja, partner Andrejs, brothers Santis (Ballymote), Aris (Latvia) and Sandris (U.K.), many relatives, friends and her work colleagues at Kearns' Centra, Caltragh, Sligo.

"Liga will repose at The Church View Funeral Home, Collooney (F91 AH21) on Wednesday, 16th March, from 6.30pm to 8pm. Removal on Thursday to Lakelands Crematorium, Cavan, for a Committal Service at 1pm.

"Those who wish to express a message of sympathy to the family, may do so in the condolence section on RIP.ie. Please adhere to government and H.S.E. guidelines regarding the wearing of face masks, social distancing and no handshaking to be observed at all times."
