Tributes paid to 'lovely lad' found dead in Scots college campus just days before 18th birthday

Tributes have been paid to a "lovely lad" who was found dead at a Scots student campus just days before his 18th birthday.

Lee Shewan was discovered within halls at Inverness College, part of the University of the Highlands and Islands.

The 17-year-old passed away on Friday, June 11, and police have described the death as "unexplained but non-suspicious".

Lee's sudden death has left his friends and family completely devastated.

In a heartbreaking tribute on Facebook, his cousin said: "Lee Shewan you truly will leave a massive hole in all of our lives.

"I will miss debating and arguing with you resulting in me getting frustrated and giving up due to your stubbornness.

"I will miss hearing you screaming at Mario kart until stupid hours and moaning to keep it down.

"I will miss you coming out with the most ridiculous things that could make anyone laugh. You should be here tomorrow celebrating your 18th.

"You will be missed so dearly. sleep tight cousin x"

Lee's work colleague said: "Such a lovely lad and will be sorely missed, thoroughly enjoyed working with Lee."

Another said: "I was so very sad to hear about this. Such a lovely, polite and helpful lad. He left a big impression on me after working with him for just one night."

Another friend said: "Rest easy Lee! One in a million."

Paying tribute on Facebook, funeral directors William T. Fraser & Son said: "Suddenly on Friday, 11 June 2021 at the University of the Highlands and Islands Campus, Lee Andrew Michael Shewan, Inverness, aged 17 years.

"Adored son, much-loved brother, dear uncle, loving grandson, great-grandson, nephew and cousin.

"Will be sadly missed by his countless friends.

"Funeral service on Friday 25th June 2021 at 12:15pm in the funeral home of William T Fraser and Son, Culduthel Road, Inverness, thereafter to Kilvean Cemetery for 1:30pm.

"Donations are invited in memory of Lee for Mikeysline."

A Police Scotland spokesman said: “We were made aware of the sudden death of a 17-year-old male youth within accommodation at Inverness Campus.

“The death is being treated as unexplained but non-suspicious. A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal in due course.”
