Tributes paid to Longford musician Jimmy Hussey after sudden death

Tributes have been paid to well-known Longford musician Jimmy Hussey who passed away on Saturday.

Mr Hussey, who was from Congress Terrace in the town died suddenly at his home in Ballyleague, Lanesboro, Co Roscommon.

A poignant tribute to him was shared on the Facebook page of Ballyleague Renewal after news of his sad death broke.

It read: "Our village is still reeling after the sudden death of this great man today. A regular sight on our streets on his treasured Harley, he has a musical place guaranteed in our town’s history and helped create a lifetime of cherished memories for us all.

"Tonight his family is in mourning and we mourn with them but over the next few days we will celebrate his brilliance behind the mic and the lasting contribution he made to our community. Farewell Jimmy. Rest in Peace".

One local added: "Deepest sympathy to all the family, may he rest in peace".

A death notice on RIP.ie reads: "He will be forever missed, by his loving wife and best friend Mary, his cherished children Jonathon and Chloe, brothers Sean and Pat, sisters Mary Ireland and Margaret Grogan, brothers-in-law James Ireland, John Grogan, John and Joe Finnegan, sisters-in-law Dee and Mary Hussey and Letitia Bourke, aunt Teresa, nephews, nieces, neighbours and his many good friends.

"The song has ended, but the memories will live on."

Mr Hussey will be reposing at Connell's Funeral Home, Church St, Longford (N39KN66), on Tuesday, September 3, from 4pm until 8pm, concluding with prayers.

His Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, September 4, at 11am in St Mel's Cathedral, Longford, followed with burial in Ballymacormack Cemetery.
